I took two classes, both of which are mainly for fourth-year students. This surprised my friends from OSU because I am a freshman. I truly appreciate my teachers and classmates for giving me the opportunity to join these advanced classes, even though I was in my first year.
One of the most impressive classes was a class of “Design of Space Vehicles and Systems I.” In this class, every team, consisting of four or five people, designs space vehicles. At the beginning of the team project, they talked to each other, “I’m good at structure, so I want to do it.” or “I’d like to oversee the food system on Mars.” They also asked me, “So, what can you do?” They seemed to be shine with confidence gained from previous learning and anticipation for their further growth. I want to be like them in the near future. Their discussions were highly technical and filled with a lot of specialized terms, so I felt it was difficult. I’ll continue to study hard to greatly improve both my language skills and technical abilities, and I hope to discuss with them again in the future.
OSU also invited us to a space food symposium and an Advanced Technology Workshop, both of which were highly formal events held in a venue decorated with chandeliers and white tablecloths. Prof. John Horack introduced us, the University of Tsukuba students, to the participants. To my surprise, some of them were from NASA, the president of the University of Tsukuba, and researchers from all over the world. It was such an impressive experience for me. I’d like to study hard so that I can participate as a presenter next time.
These classes and the time spent with wonderful friends from OSU were irreplaceable and precious, filled with a lot of surprises and excitement. I’ll take advantage of these experiences to start exploring a bigger world and expand my possibilities. Why don’t you visit OSU? As I experienced, you’ll be impressed by the big heart of OSU.
