Prof. Morio’s OSU Field Report-1

From Feb28 to Mar10, 2025* Prof. Morio visited OSU, accompanying the students of the 2024 Summer Festival winners.

*Strictly speaking, from late night Mar1 to early morning Mar11. Both on the outbound/return trip, Team Morio encountered a significant delay in flight departure time to the level of crossing the date (lol).

Here is Prof. Morio’s field report from OSU.

Ohio State University offers a service where you can order meals from an on-campus café using a dedicated app, and a food delivery robot will bring your order to you.

When I first saw this in March 2024, I found it very interesting, but during my recent visit, I noticed significant advancements.

Fig. 1A shows the model from March 2024, while Fig. 1B depicts the version in use during my recent visit. In addition to improved autonomous driving performance due to larger cameras, the robot now features a face capable of expressing emotions.

Previous studies have highlighted the importance of robots displaying expressions in human-robot collaboration, and this could provide insights into the relationship between technology and humans in an inclusive smart society.

Perhaps next time I visit, they’ll have cat ears!
