Prof. Morio’s OSU Field Report-2

What is the difference between AI and Manga?

Why are AI engineers called geniuses and Manga researchers called geeks?

Genius and Geek are two sides of the same coin. They only have different interests, but what they do is basically the same. The insatiable pursuit of what they love.

However, there is a fine line between a geek and a genius. While all geniuses have a geeky element, not all geeks can be called geniuses.

This is the second volume of the OSU field report from Manga Specialist Prof. Morio.

I usually visit libraries when I visit universities abroad, and the Thompson Library at OSU is a treasure trove of books that exceeded my expectations. The Thompson Library has a floor that can only be accessed by lift, and in one corner there was an East Asian book corner.

When it comes to East Asian books, I tend to look for manga because of my own research interests, but in addition to familiar Japanese manga, I saw many books on manga research that are difficult to find nowadays. There is also a wide range of non-Japanese manga, so it was a space that manga lovers would want to spend the whole day in.

The shadow of the book on the bottom right is a book on the history of fighting manga in Hong Kong. When it comes to fighting manga in Chinese-speaking countries, I thought it would always be in the style of Ryoichi Ikegami, but I was surprised to find that a variety of styles were born in the history of battle manga and are still emerging.

I admire the fact that they have so many books that can only be found in the respective countries.
I would like to donate a Comiket catalogue on my next visit.
